Short-form videos now top Taiwan’s media use, with 78% of adults watching them monthly.
Short-form videos have become Taiwan’s most popular media format, with 78.46% of adults aged 18 and older watching them in the past three months, surpassing social media use at 76.86%, according to a report by the Taiwan Network Information Center.
The survey, conducted from July 28 to September 1, found over 60% view short videos daily, with nearly half watching multiple times a day.
Platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts, featuring content 15 seconds to three minutes long, are widely used across all age groups, especially 18–39-year-olds.
Experts attribute the trend to ease of use and accessibility, noting that while some admit excessive use, most report enjoyment.
Researchers emphasize that short videos complement, rather than replace, other media like reading, and stress the importance of media literacy.
