SEBI raises duplicate securities threshold to Rs 10 lakh and mandates demat issuance to cut paperwork.
SEBI has streamlined the process for issuing duplicate securities by raising the simplified documentation threshold from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh, effective immediately.
Investors with holdings up to Rs 10 lakh now need only submit a standard affidavit-cum-indemnity bond on non-judicial stamp paper, while those with holdings up to Rs 10,000 can use a plain paper undertaking without notarization.
Duplicate securities will now be issued only in dematerialized form, supporting SEBI’s push for demat.
The changes apply to ongoing and new applications, with no need to resubmit previously filed documents.
The move aims to reduce compliance burdens, improve efficiency, and ensure consistency across registrars and transfer agents.
