Palestinian actor and director Mohammed Bakri, 72, died on December 24, 2025, in Nahariya, Israel, from heart and lung complications.
A prominent figure in Palestinian cinema since the 1980s, Bakri was known for his role in the Academy Award-nominated film "Beyond the Walls" and for directing the controversial 2002 documentary "Jenin, Jenin," which depicted the Israeli military operation in the Jenin refugee camp and was banned by Israel’s Supreme Court in 2022.
Despite facing boycotts and legal challenges, Bakri remained a steadfast advocate for Palestinian rights and identity through his work in film, theater, and activism.
He is survived by six children, four of whom are also actors.
