Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) began commercial operations on December 25, 2025, becoming Mumbai’s second international airport and India’s largest Greenfield airport project under a public-private partnership.
Developed by the Adani Group, the airport, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October, initially serves 20 million passengers annually with plans to expand to 90 million.
It features a modern, sustainable terminal designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, with connections to metro, water taxis, and a helipad.
The launch, marked by a water cannon salute and cultural events, welcomed over 4,000 passengers on its first day.
Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani honored war heroes, workers, farmers, and persons with disabilities as “quiet architects of the nation,” emphasizing inclusive growth and national progress.
Full operations are expected by 2038–2040.
