Mumbai Railways adds late-night trains for New Year's travel and reports rising ticket penalties.
Mumbai's Central Railway will run four special late-night trains on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, 2025-2026, to serve travelers during the holiday period.
Two trains will operate on the Main Line between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Kalyan, departing at 1:30 a.m. and arriving by 3:00 a.m., with return services.
Two others will run on the Harbour Line from CSMT to Panvel, departing at 1:30 a.m. and arriving by 2:50 a.m. All trains will stop at every station.
Western Railway will also run eight special services on the Western Line.
The rail authority reported a 10% increase in ticket penalty collections, totaling Rs 164.91 crore from over 27 lakh passengers caught traveling without valid tickets between April and November 2025.
