Delhi launched 100 subsidized canteens offering ₹5 meals to low-income residents on Dec. 25, 2025.
The Delhi government launched 100 Atal Canteens on December 25, 2025, offering two daily meals for Rs 5 to low-income residents, inspired by Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s legacy.
The scheme, part of the BJP’s election promise, provides nutritious meals including dal, rice, roti, and vegetables, with the government subsidizing Rs 25 per meal.
Each canteen serves about 1,000 people daily, operates with digital tokens and real-time CCTV monitoring, and uses FSSAI and NABL-accredited labs for food safety testing.
Kitchens feature LPG stoves, RO water, and cold storage, and the program aims to generate local employment through self-help groups.
Expansion will depend on demand and feedback.
