Belize’s High Court barred U.S. attorney Andrew Birch Reid from practicing law due to unmet licensing requirements.
The High Court of Belize denied veteran U.S. attorney Andrew Birch Reid permission to practice law, ruling he didn’t meet strict requirements under the Legal Profession Act, including needing a Commonwealth law degree and practical experience in a CARICOM country.
Despite his decades of experience and U.S. law degrees, U.S. institutions are not recognized, and his Bahamas-based legal certificate didn’t fulfill CARICOM practice requirements.
The Bar Association of Belize is reviewing the decision but maintains current standards.
Reid has not commented on appealing.
