An 18-year-old Ontario student got a clean record after pleading guilty to assault in a school incident involving a younger girl.
An 18-year-old Greater Sudbury student, Sofia Brick, received an absolute discharge—avoiding a criminal record—after pleading guilty to assault in connection with multiple incidents involving a younger female student at their high school in May and June 2025. The incidents, which included pushing, restraining, and unwanted physical contact, prompted the victim to ask to be left alone and led to a report to school staff and police. Brick, who has no prior record and was adopted from Bulgaria, completed 11 counseling sessions and entered an early plea. The Crown dropped original sexual assault charges as part of a joint sentencing submission, citing her rehabilitation and the victim’s decision not to provide a statement. Ontario Court Justice Caroline Thibault emphasized the victim’s right to personal safety and consent. The case was reported on December 23, 2025.
