UK watchdog bans ScotRail ads for false "cheapest tickets" claims, citing lack of proof and consumer harm.
The UK's Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) ruled that ScotRail’s claims of offering “the cheapest tickets” and being “unbeatable on price” were misleading, as the company provided no evidence that its fares were consistently lower than competitors’.
The ASA found the ads discouraged consumers from checking other options, potentially leading them to pay more.
Although ScotRail argued the messaging encouraged booking directly to avoid third-party fees, the watchdog said such claims must be substantiated.
The company has since updated its website, apologized, and pledged to improve compliance, while the banned ads must not be used again.
The ruling is part of a broader crackdown on misleading rail fare claims affecting multiple operators.
El organismo de control del Reino Unido prohíbe los anuncios de ScotRail por las afirmaciones falsas de "billetes más baratos", citando la falta de pruebas y el daño al consumidor.
