Sony buys 41% of Peanuts franchise for $630M, now owns 80%, while licensing deals with Six Flags continue through 2030.
Sony has acquired a 41% stake in the "Peanuts" franchise from WildBrain for $630 million CAD, increasing its ownership to 80% while the Schulz family retains 20%.
The move comes as the franchise’s long-standing licensing agreement with Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, which operates Kings Island, remains in place through 2030.
The partnership, dating back to 1983 at Knott’s Berry Farm, expanded to Kings Island in 2010 as Planet Snoopy and was updated in 2023 with the addition of the Snoopy’s Soap Box Racers roller coaster.
Though Sony’s growing influence in theme parks, including its Columbia Pictures Aquaverse in Thailand, may affect future international plans, no changes to current North American licensing deals have been announced.
