New Zealand’s Commerce Commission has raised competition concerns over Mohawk Industries’ proposed $70 million to $77 million acquisition of Bremworth, citing risks that the deal could substantially lessen competition in the domestic carpet market.
The regulator, not yet satisfied the merger would not harm competition, is reviewing the transaction after Mohawk already owns two major New Zealand carpet brands—Godfrey Hirst and Feltex.
A decision is expected by 13 March 2026, with submissions due by 2 February, and could be delayed if more information is needed.
Bremworth says the sale is critical to its stability amid ongoing challenges, including plant damage and shifting production strategies.
