A $2M anonymous gift accelerates construction of Cedar Rapids’ first senior center in 20 years, set to open in 2027.
An anonymous $2 million donation has propelled the construction of Cedar Rapids’ first senior center in nearly two decades, accelerating the Our Place Center for Older Adults in the Oak Hill-Jackson neighborhood.
The project, now at 65% of its $5.5 million goal, will open in early 2027 and occupy a 13,000-square-foot building with a café, fitness studio, library, movie room, activity spaces, and an outdoor pickleball court.
Construction begins February 2026.
The center aims to serve nearly 30% of Linn County’s population projected to be 55 or older by 2030, filling a gap left after the 2008 flood destroyed the previous senior facility.
