Luzerne County has secured a $222,000 grant from casino gambling funds to repave the 0.93-mile Huntsville Road Extension, a key evacuation route and connector between the Back Mountain and Sweet Valley areas.
The project, which will resurface 4,800 feet from Huntsville Road to Idetown Road, includes milling, base repair, drainage work, and restriping.
County officials say the road is in poor condition and the improvements will boost safety and accessibility.
The total cost is $524,300, with the county responsible for securing additional funds.
Design will begin once the contract is finalized and remaining funds are confirmed.
State Sen. Lisa Baker and Rep. Brenda Pugh are credited with helping obtain the grant.
