A K-Pop concert in Hong Kong may be broadcast in mainland China, signaling possible easing of a cultural ban since 2017.
A K-Pop concert, Dream Concert 2026, is set for February 6–7, 2026, at Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong, with plans to broadcast it across mainland China via Hunan Television, according to organizers.
This could mark the first K-Pop concert aired in mainland China since an unofficial cultural ban began in 2017 over diplomatic tensions involving a U.S. missile defense system in South Korea.
The announcement coincides with renewed diplomatic engagement, including a recent summit between Chinese President Xi Jinping and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, who is expected to visit China early next year.
While China’s foreign ministry said it was unaware of the plans or any policy shift, the news prompted gains in shares of major South Korean entertainment companies.
The concert’s performers have not been disclosed.
