A £20K campaign saved the 18-foot Yomper statue, honoring Royal Marines in the Falklands War, ensuring 10+ years of preservation.
The Yomper statue, a 18-foot bronze memorial to the Royal Marines' resilience in the Falklands War, has secured its future after raising over £20,000—surpassing its £9,000 goal—through public donations and support from Lockheed Martin, Portsmouth City Council, and the Reed Foundation.
The funds will ensure at least ten years of conservation, including protection against bronze disease.
Unveiled in 1992 and sculpted by Philip Jackson, the statue depicts Corporal Ian Robinson’s iconic 1982 advance toward Port Stanley with a Union flag on his radio aerial.
The National Museum of the Royal Navy called the campaign a testament to public support, with the preservation effort part of broader plans, including the upcoming Royal Marines Experience at Boathouse 6 in Portsmouth.
