India's tax agency uses data to nudge 15 lakh+ taxpayers to fix ineligible deductions, aiming for voluntary compliance by Dec 31, 2025.
India's tax authority has launched a data-driven NUDGE campaign for the 2025-26 assessment year, using analytics to identify taxpayers who may have claimed ineligible deductions, such as bogus donations to unregistered political parties or incorrect PANs.
Through targeted SMS and email alerts, the government is urging affected individuals to voluntarily revise their returns by December 31, 2025, to avoid scrutiny or penalties.
Over 15 lakh revised returns have already been filed for the current year, and more than 21 lakh updates for prior years have led to over ₹2,500 crore in additional tax payments.
The initiative emphasizes voluntary compliance, transparency, and trust, with no action needed for valid claims.
