India boosts security ahead of 2026 Republic Day with 5,800 extra troops due to threat of terrorism.
Delhi is deploying over 5,800 additional Central Armed Police Forces personnel ahead of the 2026 Republic Day celebrations, following intelligence about elevated threats, including a November 2025 bomb blast near the Red Fort.
The forces, from BSF, CRPF, ITBP, CISF, and SSB, will secure a two-kilometer zone around Kartavya Path, supporting Delhi Police and NSG teams in safeguarding key sites like the Red Fort and Raj Ghat.
The move coincides with the visit of EU leaders Ursula von der Leyen and Antonio Costa as chief guests.
Meanwhile, traffic restrictions are in place in south Delhi’s Saket area from December 24–25 due to Christmas festivities, with diversions, bans on heavy vehicles and buses, and alternate routes advised.
