A deaf student’s parents sue Stillwater Schools for failing to protect her from repeated assaults by a classmate, despite warnings and a protective order not being shared.
A federal lawsuit filed on December 23, 2025, alleges Stillwater Public Schools and city officials failed to protect a deaf high school student who reported repeated sexual assaults by classmate Jesse Butler, despite a court-issued protective order not being entered into the school system.
The suit, brought by the victim’s parents, claims school staff ignored reports, failed to act, and allowed Butler—whose father worked at the school—to continue harassing the student, resulting in emotional harm and disrupted education.
Butler, convicted of raping two students, received youthful offender status and avoided jail.
The lawsuit seeks over $75,000 per claim, punitive damages, and attorney fees, while a separate motion argues the victim was denied rights under Marsy’s Law during sentencing.
Stillwater Public Schools declined to comment.
