Cumberland County has awarded a $1 million contract to the Salvation Army for emergency shelter services, including 67 permanent beds and 50 extra during extreme weather.
The Manna Dream Center was selected to operate a new $17 million Unhoused Support Center with 100 beds, receiving $439,320 for preparation and $2.89 million annually once open.
The county lacks a government-run shelter, and both organizations aim to help people stabilize and achieve permanent housing.
The Salvation Army’s previous Pathway of Hope shelter closed in April due to health and financial issues, but new management has since taken over.
