A Colorado man was extradited from the UK to face charges for a $3.4 million Ponzi scheme promising high returns.
Matthew Melton, a 61-year-old Boulder, Colorado man, has been extradited from the UK to New York to face federal fraud charges for allegedly running a Ponzi scheme from 2018 to 2020.
Authorities say he defrauded at least 20 investors by claiming his fund, Price Physics, used a high-tech trading algorithm to deliver 10% monthly returns, while actually using new investors’ money to pay old ones and diverting nearly $3.4 million for personal expenses, including a mortgage and luxury trips.
U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton called the scheme a classic, outdated fraud.
Melton appeared in Brooklyn federal court and remains in custody; his attorney has not commented.
The case highlights risks of guaranteed high returns and U.S. enforcement efforts abroad.
