Adam Pelech scored with 1:15 left to lift the New York Islanders to a 2-1 win over the New Jersey Devils. Simon Holmstrom tied it after a turnover by Devils goalie Jacob Markstrom, whose pass deflected off teammate Jonas Siegenthaler. Pelech converted the rebound off a shot by Holmstrom. David Rittich made 31 saves for the Islanders, stopping a 6-on-5 breakaway chance late. Brett Pesce scored for the Devils early in the first. The win ended the Islanders’ three-game losing streak and improved their December record to 7-3-1. Bo Horvat missed his fifth straight game with a left ankle injury. The Devils have lost eight of their last 12 games.
