Xi urges state-owned enterprises to boost innovation, security, and national development.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has directed central state-owned enterprises (SOEs) to strengthen their role in advancing Chinese modernization, emphasizing their responsibility to support national development goals, boost technological innovation, and ensure economic and security resilience. Speaking at a meeting in Beijing, Xi called for improved governance, enhanced core competitiveness, and greater focus on the real economy and key industries, while reinforcing Communist Party leadership and anti-corruption efforts. Premier Li Qiang stressed SOEs’ role in modernizing infrastructure, developing emerging industries, and supporting the 2026–2030 Five-Year Plan, urging proactive reform and strategic alignment with national priorities.
