Victoria’s government buys the $650M Delburn wind farm to boost renewable energy and support clean energy transition.
The Victorian government’s State Electricity Commission has acquired the $650 million Delburn wind farm in the Latrobe Valley, set to begin construction in early 2026 and generate enough renewable energy for over 130,000 homes.
Located near the former Hazelwood coal plant, the 33-turbine project marks a shift toward public ownership and supports Victoria’s clean energy transition.
It will be paired with a 600MW battery, the largest on Australia’s eastern grid.
While officials highlight job creation and regional renewal, some residents have raised concerns about environmental impacts, including risks to wildlife and fire hazards.
The project was approved in 2022 despite these concerns.
