Ofwat fined Wessex Water £11 million for sewage spills, demanding infrastructure upgrades by 2030.
Ofwat has imposed an £11 million enforcement package on Wessex Water for failing to properly maintain its wastewater system, leading to sewage overflows, with funds coming from the company, not customers or shareholders.
The move is the sixth in Ofwat’s 2025 wastewater investigation, bringing total enforcement actions to £250 million.
Wessex Water pledged to fix issues by sealing private sewer pipes, upgrading treatment sites, installing monitoring systems, and investing £300 million in infrastructure by 2030, including sustainable rainwater solutions.
The company expressed regret over environmental and customer impacts and said corrective actions are underway.
