NIA chief Sadanand Date is returning to Maharashtra to become its next top cop, effective immediately.
Sadanand Vasant Date, the Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), has been repatriated to his parent cadre, Maharashtra, effective immediately, following approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
The 1990-batch IPS officer, who led the NIA since April 2024, is set to become Maharashtra’s next Director General of Police, succeeding Rashmi Shukla, whose term ends December 31, 2025.
Date, a key figure in the 2008 Mumbai attacks response, held senior roles in Maharashtra’s police, CBI, and CRPF, and has received multiple presidential honors for his service.
The move is part of routine administrative reshuffling, though no official reasons were provided for the early return.
