A Lincoln man was cited for allegedly causing a fatal crash that killed Kristine Hess, a Civic Nebraska director, while she crossed at a marked crosswalk on October 11, 2025.
A 33-year-old Lincoln man, Cesar Leos, was cited on suspicion of misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide in connection with a fatal crash on October 11, 2025, that killed 61-year-old Kristine Hess, director of operations at Civic Nebraska.
Police say Leos, driving a tow truck for Midwest Towing, was turning left onto North 48th Street from St. Paul Avenue when he struck Hess, who was crossing at a marked crosswalk near a Civic Nebraska event venue.
Authorities reported Leos was inattentive at the time, and Hess may have been distracted by her phone.
She was pronounced dead after first responders arrived around 10:44 a.m.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no further charges have been announced.
