In Kerala, India, a small shrine in Pampakuda holds a relic believed to be from St Nicholas, the historical figure behind Santa Claus.
Brought from the Holy Land in the 1890s by Saint Geevarghese Mar Gregorios, the relic is part of a collection including fragments from Bethlehem’s Milk Grotto and other saints.
Though St Nicholas is commemorated on December 6 by the Malankara Orthodox Church, his legacy remains largely unknown outside the village.
The shrine, which draws visitors seeking spiritual intercession, is one of several sites worldwide preserving fragments of the saint, whose image evolved from the Dutch Sinterklaas tradition brought to America.
