Cholo Abdi Abdullah, a 34-year-old Kenyan man linked to al-Shabaab, was sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison on December 22, 2025, for plotting a 9/11-style terrorist attack on Atlanta’s Bank of America Plaza.
Convicted in November 2024, Abdullah trained in Somalia and the Philippines to become a commercial pilot, with al-Shabaab funding his flight school through extortion.
He researched Delta flights, U.S. aviation security, and the skyscraper’s structure, admitting he planned to hijack a plane and crash it into the 55-story building, intending to die in the attack.
Arrested in July 2019, he has been in U.S. custody since 2020.
