IndiGo must return five leased Turkish Boeing 737s by March 31, 2026, due to a sunset clause.
India’s aviation regulator has confirmed that IndiGo’s authorization to operate five Boeing 737 aircraft leased from Turkey’s Corendon Airlines expires March 31, 2026, with no extensions permitted. The temporary arrangement, part of a broader wet-lease agreement allowing IndiGo to operate 15 foreign aircraft, was approved to offset delays in receiving long-range A321-XLR planes and address fleet gaps caused by engine issues and supply chain disruptions. The DGCA emphasized the lease agreement includes a sunset clause, and the move aligns with global practices to maintain passenger service during temporary disruptions. SpiceJet also operates 17 wet-leased aircraft, none from Turkey.
