A Dec. 31, 2025, hearing in Suva’s High Court will determine who legally represents the Commission of Inquiry (COI) after a dispute between the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and the State.
The JSC argues the State now holds authority since the COI report was submitted to the President, while Supreme Court Judge David Ashton Lewis’s team claims they remain the rightful representatives.
The case, which seeks to remove a COI report on a former FICAC commissioner’s appointment, has been paused twice to explore a settlement.
The JSC recently filed a motion to remove Justice Lewis from the case, but his lawyer insists any agreement requires his consent.
The court will hear arguments from all parties on the issue.
