Cumbria proposes a £4.95 annual tax hike for Band D homes to fund fire service upgrades and staffing.
Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner David Allen has launched a public consultation on a proposed £4.95 annual council tax increase for Band D properties to fund the 2026-27 fire service budget.
The raise aims to maintain emergency response capabilities, upgrade aging equipment and stations, and ensure safe staffing.
Allen cited years of underinvestment and recent improvements, including over £2 million in upgrades and new appliances, as justification for continued funding.
The consultation runs from December 22 to January 23, with residents able to respond online, by phone, or via paper form.
