A Canadian hunter pleaded guilty to illegal hunting, including killing a moose and deer, and was fined and banned.
Allen Morhart, owner of Hartland Whitetails Ltd. in Saskatchewan, pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to illegal hunting operations, including outfitting three European clients without a licence, unlawfully killing a wild moose and mule deer, and concealing the killings with a forged licence seal. A captive mule deer tested positive for chronic wasting disease and was euthanized. Morhart was fined $36,400 and banned from hunting for five years. Austrian hunt broker Erich Mueller was convicted of aiding the illegal operation, fined $6,760, and suspended from hunting for one year. The case stems from a 2023 investigation into baiting wild deer and a moose into a fenced enclosure on the farm.
