Arizona has canceled $642 million in medical debt for over 485,000 residents through a state-nonprofit partnership using American Rescue Plan funds.

No application is needed—eligible individuals are notified by mail.
The initiative, which began in 2024, aims to relieve up to $2 billion in debt statewide, with $1.3 billion still available.
The relief, provided by purchasing debt at a discount and canceling it, removes negative credit impacts and carries no tax liability.
