TransPennine Express has introduced eight police community support officers (PCSOs) on its northern England rail network, working with British Transport Police to boost safety and tackle antisocial behavior on key routes.
Five PCSOs are already active, with three joining in February 2026.
Equipped with detention powers, they patrol trains and stations in uniform, serving as a visible presence and direct link to BTP.
The nine-month initiative, backed by Rail Minister Lord Peter Hendy, aims to increase passenger confidence and set a new industry standard under public ownership.
