Saudi Arabia mandates new safety and design rules for private schools, including access, setbacks, and land area requirements.
Saudi Arabia has enacted new regulations for private schools and educational facilities, requiring safe, well-planned campuses with specific site and design standards.
The rules, issued by the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing, apply to nurseries, kindergartens, schools, and complexes on education-designated or leased land, including commercial zones.
Buildings must access at least two streets—one at least 25 meters wide—follow floor limits, and maintain mandatory setbacks.
Nurseries in standalone buildings may use a single street if it’s at least 15 meters wide.
The regulations allow residential buildings on campuses if separate from academic facilities and set minimum land area per student, ranging from four to five square meters, depending on the institution size and region.
The goal is to enhance safety, environmental quality, and urban integration in private education.
