A safety committee is reviewing Chinnaswamy Stadium ahead of a spectator-free Vijay Hazare Trophy match, following a deadly 2024 stampede.
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara announced a committee led by the GBA Commissioner has been formed to assess the safety of Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru ahead of a planned Vijay Hazare Trophy match on December 24 without spectators.
The team, including officials from police, fire, health, and public works, inspected the stadium and will report by 5 p.m. today.
The review follows a fatal stampede in June 2024 that killed 11 people during an IPL event, leading to the stadium’s closure for major events and the relocation of ICC Women’s ODI World Cup matches due to governance issues.
The government will decide on future matches based on the committee’s findings.
