A 35-year-old woman from south Auckland was charged with two counts of shoplifting and driving without a license after allegedly stealing about $400 in goods from a Kmart in Botany on December 21, 2025.
Police responded shortly after 10:30 a.m., located the suspects’ vehicle on Great South Road in Manurewa using a detailed description, and recovered the stolen items.
Both a man and woman were arrested, but only the woman faced formal charges and is set to appear in Manukau District Court on Christmas Eve.
Authorities emphasized that theft during the holidays will not be tolerated and urged the public to report suspicious activity.
The incident is part of broader efforts to combat retail crime, including a new Waikato District initiative that has led to 172 charges since November 10, targeting repeat offenders through dedicated teams and collaboration with retailers.
