After a Dec. 14 Bondi terror attack that killed 15, New South Wales passed emergency laws capping gun ownership at four firearms per person, tightening magazine limits, and banning public protests for up to three months during terrorism alerts. Premier Chris Minns said the measures are needed for public safety. The Liberals back the gun reforms, Nationals oppose them, and civil liberties groups warn the protest ban threatens democratic rights. The government may move to ban phrases like “Globalise the Intifada” in 2026.
