Jordan joined U.S. airstrikes on ISIS in Syria after a attack near Palmyra killed three U.S. citizens.
Jordan confirmed it joined U.S.-led airstrikes on December 19, 2025, against ISIS targets in southern Syria, following a deadly attack near Palmyra that killed three U.S. citizens, including two military personnel and a civilian interpreter.
The U.S. conducted over 70 strikes using fighter jets, attack helicopters, and artillery, supported by Jordanian aircraft, targeting ISIS positions to disrupt the group’s rebuilding efforts and prevent regional threats.
The operation, part of a broader campaign, followed 10 joint operations in Syria and Iraq since the December 13 attack, resulting in the deaths or detention of 23 suspected terrorists.
Syria’s interim leader, Ahmad al-Sharaa, backed the strikes, while the U.S. emphasized ongoing counterterrorism efforts, with over 80 operations in Syria in the past six months.
The gunman responsible for the attack, a former security guard under investigation for possible ISIS ties, was killed during the assault on a joint U.S.-Syrian meeting.
