Foxconn's new Indian iPhone factory, hiring mostly young women, rapidly scaled to 30,000 workers and now produces iPhones for export.
Foxconn has rapidly hired nearly 30,000 workers—mostly young women aged 19 to 24—at its new iPhone plant in Devanahalli, Karnataka, completing the hiring in just eight to nine months, the fastest factory ramp-up in India.
The 300-acre facility, which began trial production in April–May 2025 with the iPhone 16 and now assembles the iPhone 17 Pro Max, exports over 80% of its output.
With about 80% of employees being women, the site includes six dormitories and plans for a full mini township.
Part of a ₹20,000 crore investment, the plant is set to expand to 50,000 workers and could become India’s largest factory by scale and employment.
The project supports Apple’s shift from China, backed by India’s production-linked incentive scheme and a growing local supply chain of nearly 45 suppliers.
Workers receive an average monthly salary of ₹18,000, free housing, and subsidized food, along with six-week on-the-job training.
