Two WA seafood firms sue state over trawling ban, citing lack of consultation and harm to jobs and investments.
Two Western Australian seafood companies, Sea Harvest and Westmore Seafoods, have sued the state government over a permanent ban on demersal trawling in the Pilbara, claiming the move was made without proper consultation, lacks scientific backing, and unfairly harms regional jobs, food supply, and foreign investments.
They argue the ban disproportionately affects the fishing industry and undermines sustainable management, calling it an unjust expropriation of legal investments and raising concerns about Australia’s investment climate.
The case will be heard in the WA Supreme Court.
