RSS leader says India is a Hindu nation by culture and history, not needing constitutional proof.
RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat stated India is a Hindu nation by cultural and historical truth, asserting this identity doesn’t require constitutional validation, comparing it to the sun rising in the east.
Speaking at a Kolkata centenary event, he said India’s Hindu identity endures as long as people value ancestral heritage, rejected birth-based caste systems as part of Hindutva, and dismissed the need for constitutional changes to affirm this.
He denied the RSS is anti-Muslim, urging public visits to its shakhas to dispel misconceptions, and emphasized the organization’s nationalist stance without hostility toward other communities.
The remarks come amid ongoing debates over India’s secular identity, including the 1976 addition of 'secular' to the Constitution’s preamble.
