Punjab declares three Sikh holy cities 'intoxicant-free' from Dec. 15, 2025, banning meat, alcohol, tobacco.
The Punjab government has declared Amritsar’s Walled City, Talwandi Sabo, and Sri Anandpur Sahib as 'holy cities' effective December 15, 2025, banning the sale of meat, alcohol, tobacco, and intoxicants in these areas.
The move, following a unanimous assembly resolution to mark Guru Tegh Bahadur’s 350th martyrdom anniversary, grants special religious status to three of the five Sikh takhts.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann confirmed the ban is now in effect, with enhanced public transport like e-rickshaws and shuttles to aid pilgrims, while ensuring development respects the sites’ spiritual importance.
