Melbourne chef Chris Lucas closes Canberra’s Carlotta after 14 months, selling to Seagrass for rebrand as Hunter and Barrel.
Melbourne restaurateur Chris Lucas has closed his Canberra restaurant Carlotta after 14 months, selling the lease to Seagrass Boutique Hospitality Group, which will rebrand the space as Hunter and Barrel.
The closure ends Lucas’s planned three-restaurant expansion in Canberra, delayed by site issues at Scotts Crossing.
Despite earning a chef’s hat in the 2025 Good Food Guide, Lucas cited inability to support multiple venues as the reason to shift focus to Sydney.
The site’s Mediterranean-inspired interior will be reimagined under the new concept.
QIC, the development’s investor, confirmed more hospitality openings are planned for 2026.
