India and the Netherlands partner on Lothal’s maritime museum to share heritage expertise and boost cultural tourism.
India and the Netherlands have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) in Lothal, Gujarat, linking it with the National Maritime Museum in Amsterdam.
The agreement, signed by Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Dutch Foreign Minister David van Weel, aims to share expertise in museum design, curation, and conservation, support joint exhibitions and research, and enhance public outreach.
The NMHC will highlight India’s 4,500-year maritime history, promote inclusive education and tourism, and ensure accessibility for underprivileged communities.
The partnership also aligns with broader cooperation in shipping, port development, and green shipping initiatives.
