Hertfordshire firefighters are testing body cameras to combat an 83% surge in abuse, with 22 violent incidents in the past year.
Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service has launched a trial of body-worn cameras for firefighters and staff amid an 83% rise in abuse incidents, with 22 violent cases reported between April 2024 and March 2025.
The cameras, deployed at stations in Hemel Hempstead and Stevenage and among prevention officers, aim to enhance safety, deter abuse, support investigations, and improve training.
The program, aligned with national recommendations, is set to expand to all stations by early 2026.
