Former junior hockey player Carter Hart, acquitted in a 2018 sexual assault case, will start for the Vegas Golden Knights against the Oilers.
Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Carter Hart, 27, will start in Sunday’s game against the Edmonton Oilers, becoming the first of five former junior hockey players acquitted in a 2018 sexual assault case to play professionally in Canada.
The incident occurred at a Hockey Canada gala in London, Ont., following a world junior championship win.
All five players—Hart, Michael McLeod, Alex Formenton, Dillon Dube, and Cal Foote—were cleared by a jury in July, sparking national debate over consent and Hockey Canada’s response.
Hart, who signed with Vegas in December after six seasons with the Flyers, has a 3-0-2 record with a 2.26 GAA and .917 save percentage.
NHL officials confirmed in September that the players could return to play despite the allegations.
Hart has been praised by coach Bruce Cassidy for his professionalism and preparation.
