flag A Dhaka court upgraded charges in the killing of Bangladeshi activist Sharif Osman Hadi to murder after he died in Singapore; two suspects were remanded, and a man believed to be the mastermind remains at large.

A Dhaka court has upgraded the charges in the killing of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi to murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code after he died in Singapore on December 18 from injuries sustained in a December 12 shooting. The court also granted a five-day remand to two suspects, Sibyon Dio and Sanjay Chisim, accused of helping the main suspect, Faisal Karim Masud, flee to a neighboring country via the Haluaghat border. A travel ban has been imposed on Masud, believed to be the mastermind behind the attack, which police say was linked to election-related sabotage. The investigation, led by the Detective Branch’s Motijheel team, continues.
