Cyclist Takato Kashiwagi's bike was stolen in Albuquerque, but locals helped recover it after a stranger's act of kindness.
Japanese cyclist Takato Kashiwagi, traveling from New York to Los Angeles in 90 days, had his bike stolen in Albuquerque during a brief stop at a Walgreens.
After the theft, he mistakenly approached a stranger’s home, where resident Dominic Pettine helped him search and rallied local cyclists via Facebook, leading to widespread support and donations.
Kashiwagi recovered his bike days later by paying $40 to the person who bought it.
Despite the setback, he praised Albuquerque’s community for its kindness and is now continuing his journey toward Los Angeles before his tourist visa expires on January 7.
