On December 21, 2025, BRS leader K. Chandrashekar Rao accused both the Telangana and central governments of betraying the drought-prone Palamuru region, blaming stalled progress on the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme.
He claimed the Centre returned the project’s Detailed Project Report, citing pressure from Andhra Pradesh’s chief minister, and criticized the current government for accepting a reduced water allocation.
Rao, who led the BRS during the project’s initial phase, said ₹27,000 crore had been spent and 90% of work completed.
He announced a mass movement across three districts, alleging systemic neglect and mismanagement, while also accusing the Congress government of failing to advance irrigation projects and making false promises.
The state’s chief minister countered that the BRS had previously accepted a lower share of Krishna River water and failed to complete key projects.
